Electric Bike Hub Motors (E-bike Brushless BLDC Motors)
« on: January 06, 2015, 08:48:06 pm »
Hi all,

Very long time since I've posted on here!

I'm currently working on an Inverter design for a brushless hub motor, commonly used on E-bikes. However, I am struggling to find any technical information on the motors in terms of winding inductance/resistance, no. of pole pairs, if they are wye or delta wound etc.. Now I appreciate that the following question is along the lines of how long is a piece of string but I am wondering if anyone has any such information or owns one of these? I suspect they are all fairly similar (cheap chinese) ultimately. What I am mainly interested in is the winding inductance as I read <150uH on one website which sounds very low and will completely change the inverter topology I would go for.

Hopefully I will have one on order in the near future so I can take some measurements but in the mean time any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is the sort of thing I'm on about: http://www.leafbike.com/products/diy-bike-conversion-kit/20-inch-electric-hub-motor-kit/20-inch-48v-1000w-electric-bike-kit-front-wheel-591.html

Cheers,

Dave

I wouldn't buy any motor unless they can provide a full datasheet. Ask them for one, if they can't provide one with all information then find another company or get a proper BLDC motor and use a chain on it.

Agreed. Awaiting a response as we speak. Although I only have contact with the Chinese distributor so could be interesting...

yes! go to endless-sphere and educate your-self in the motor portion of the forum. Justin from ebikes.ca/ grin technology has written an on-line ebike simulator here:http://www.ebikes.ca/tools/simulator.html

It doesn't have anywhere near the total number motors available from china, but even with those in the table you can get an idea of the variety. Many different windings KV ect. Good luck, lots of reading ahead.
