i am going through the proses of rebuilding my coil gun an would like to make i portable would i be possible to use a pwm signal instead of AC.

you will need you PWM signal to be fed via a Hbridge as it has to be dual polarity for the voltage multiplier to work

You don't need an h-bridge, a half bridge will do.
What voltage do you need? Using a flyback transformer is normally the best way to go.

I'd be interested in see the total design. I have a coil gun project as well. I'd be interested in seeing your coil geometry and your efficiency.
