PCI Express GPIO solution
« on: November 19, 2013, 04:24:39 am »
Does anyone here know of a good PCIE GPIO card?

I would like a card with a port on the back that goes to a gpio breakout board.

Do you mean GPIB? If not, what kind of port are you looking for? There's no such thing as a GPIO Port, as far as I'm aware.
Death, taxes and diode losses.

I use these http://www.icpdas.com/root/product/solutions/pc_based_io_board/pc_based_io_board_products.html#PCI.
Pretty robust. about 2 boards broken for about 130 PCs for 12 years.

Unless you need the extra speed or lower latency, a GPIO interface with USB connection (eg. Labjack) may be a cheaper solution.

How many bits of GPIO do you need, and how fast?

Something like the amplicon PCIE296 sounds like its what you're after.  At 199GBP its cheaper than most Labjack offerings for higher numbers of IO lines (not that a single labjack would give you 96 lines)
If you were on regular PCI then the prices are much cheaper

You should buy one based on software development practices that you are comfortable with. For example, the NI DAQ cards are nice (but expensive), I really don't like labview though. Good thing they provide ANSI C libs too. I have seen a bunch of cards which were supposed to be used with visual basic (yucky!), if that is not your flavour then don't spend your money.

That is awesome, exactly what I am after.

Thanks for the tip!
