Looking for info on NEWCON capacitors
« on: February 04, 2014, 06:17:41 pm »
A coworker brought over an electronic ballast that had died.  It's a Coralife SPL-265R-JS, and the circuit board inside is marked as being made by Skynet Lighting.  I've found the site for skynet... not much info.
I've found that one of the capacitors is open circuit, and I'd like to get a good replacement.  It's marked as NEWCON, but I can't find much in the way of references for that brand.  I plan to replace it with a Nichicon or similar quality, but I'm not sure of the rating.

The capacitor is fairly small (5.24mm x 11mm, radial) marked as:
50V
10uF
105 C
WY

Does the WY just indicate the rated hours?
Does anyone have a link to the NEWCON datasheets or ratings?

It's just a shitty chinese capacitor.

Replace with any good quality 10-15uF 50-63v capacitor.

I doubt you`ll find any datasheets or ratings. As mariush said they are just shitty caps, replace with good quality ones .

A bit of info about newcon, the company is/has been wound up.As with many bad capacitor makers, they spring up,sell shit, shut down or change the company name.

That's what I guessed when I couldn't find much in my searches.    I found a couple of references to NEWCON on the badcaps forum, definitely not liked over there.
I'll pickup some good ones with a decent hours rating to help the ballast last a little longer.

Thanks for the feedback!
