Metcal MX500 handles, whats wrong?
« on: April 30, 2019, 12:54:30 pm »
I bought MX500P-11 with  2 handles.

Looks the same but with slightly different connectors.
1st: STSS RM3E, 2nd: MX  RM3E

1st smaller work fine. 2dn can't screw into the station. just does not fit.
is this handle for another model or required a special adapter?

Are you reversing the barrel off the connector before putting it on?

The bottom style works a bit differently than the top one, it doesn't just thread on. The outside barrel clamps the connector in place. First, turn the barrel until the 'fingers' of the connector are exposed, push them over the connector on the power supply, then thread the barrel over the fingers until its clamped in place.

thanks.
it probably stuck inside the barrel, and coaxial connector rotated with the barrel, freely.
I check the resistance and it's zero indefinite. so the wire is broken or disconnected.

Next journey to repair the handle. It is possible to but the same connector, to replace old one?

Like @Nerull said: you have to unscrew the outer sleeve until it looks like this

thanks, I got the point.
As barrel stuck, coax connector rotated with it and wire inside detached/ripped off. I mistakenly say zero resistance. actually, it is the opposite no connection.
I can reuse this connector, but still, probably need to cut the plastic and resolder.
