I need a keypad for a project. I was about to use tactile switches on PCB and a graphic overlay on top. That approach would have some problems like matching the length of the switch stems just to the underside of the graphic overlay. Durability might also be poor.
Now I have found out that there are reasonably priced manufacturers of membrane keypads in China. They will be more expensive than tactile switches but not by much. Membrane keypad will also be much easier for mechanical design as it only needs a flat surface to stick on. They are also said to have a lifetime of millions of key presses.
Does someone have any experience on designing and ordering membrane keypads? There is almost no information found online.
Who designs the technical side of the keyboard? Do I have to design the circuit or only graphics?
