Hi there.
It's well established that one of the best microscopes on the market for electronics work is the Mantis Elite. However, as Dave and others have mentioned, the Elite Cam HD version of the Mantis suffers from a very poor quality camera that is "HD" in name only. The factory camera is unusable because of low frame rate and poor colour reproduction.
Over the past few months, I've been working on remedying this issue. After a lot of trial, error, and failures, I've created a one-of-a-kind Mantis Elite Cam. My conversion is complete with 60 FPS video at either 1080p crop or the full sensor size, which is slightly short of 4K, and has much better colour reproduction as it uses a Sony sensor. The case of the Mantis had to be modified to accommodate a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C Connector, as well as modifications to the optical assembly to accommodate the new camera and sensor.
The conversion is not for the faint of heart, as it requires a good amount of modification and intricate, precision work with the optical assembly. The regular Mantis will not support this at all, so you will either need to purchase an Elite Cam HD or have one available for the conversion. But if you're up for it, you can PM me and I can provide further details about the cost and the process of doing the conversion. If there's enough interest, I think I'll make a little side gig of converting these.
I've posted some before/after sample footage with the same board at the below link. I'd love to get any comments or feedback, especially if you think there's a market for selling these.
