Makita battery - USB-C charging
« on: March 29, 2024, 07:35:44 pm »
I found this knock-off Makita battery charger that is able to take power from a USB-C PD charger.
So basically you could charge Makita batteries through USB-C. Charger is also much more compact that the original Makita bulky AC charger.
And this charger does both input and output!

...but.. how safe is this for the batteries?
Because I see on the back that it only has 2 rails, for -/+. It has no connections to the middle yellow housing with 7 pins like the original AC charger does.
So I assume it does no balancing?
Is this bad for the battery?

Good Morning Kat, get one of the USB testers and insert it into your circuit and see what it is doing.   You need a tester that recognizes the quick charge modes, like the phones use.   The tester I like is the J7-c,
which is found everywhere.
