LM135/235/335 temperature range
« on: October 08, 2022, 02:08:59 am »
According to the datasheet, the LM135 has continuous use to 150C, the LM235 to 125C and the LM335 to 100C.  But they all are available in a TO-92 packet, which has a storage temp good to 150C.  So...

What happens to the LM335 above 100C?  It just won't produce an accurate output?  Or damage occurs?  Why does the LM335 only allow intermittent use to 125C, but can be stored at 150C?

Ah, that goes back to the days when National Semi was still around and you had mil spec devices. As National acknowledged, the chips going into the 1/2/3 ranges were all the same the only difference might have been the level of testing. Pretty sure the 150C rated devices for use would have needed the metal case, milspec which is what the 1 series was about didn't like plastic cases much in the 80's because of temp and possible outgassing at high altitudes. It was all ceramic or metal casings for semis. The 1 was for military, 2 for industrial and 3 for comercial but you probably already knew that.
