Looking for a LiPo charging IC with 5V boost
« on: September 14, 2016, 11:20:10 am »
Hi, I'm designing a board, and I have the following requirements:
  • USB charged
  • LiPo battery (approx 3-4.2V range)
  • 5V output voltage
  • Up to 2A peak output current
  • Small footprint (non-BGA)
Up to this I've been using MCP73871 for charging and TPS61092 to boost the battery voltage to 5V, but I'm looking for a single-chip solution.

I've looked through TI's site (specifically the BQ24 and BQ25 series), and didn't really find anything that suited this application. I don't need USB OTG boost.

Then I found chips from Active-semi and Maxim on Mouser.com
The Active-semi one caught my eye since it's only $2, while the others are around $4-5.

Has anyone tried these, or similar, and could help me out here?

I can't understand why you'd want this? It can't work in any other sense than maybe safety testing for approval purposes? (Testing how spectacularly the battery goes off?)

Edit: I understood what you are after: an integrated energy bank IC. A clearer description would have helped.

Sorry if my description was not clear enough. Now I at least know that what I'm looking for has a name.
