inverter 3 phase, to 1 phase
« on: August 20, 2020, 02:50:58 pm »
hi,
I have just received a 3 phase inverter, the cheap chinese kind of stuff you can get with low cost CNC. Nothing special. Just the manual is not reporting any wiring diagram.

It says "if the single phase meets two willfully". But it's not clear if and how I can connect 1 phase 220VAC to the 3 phase inputs.

any enlightenment?

Sorry for the silly question, but this kind of stuff is not my working field  ;D

yup, that's the manual, but it's not clear how I ought wires to a single phase.

The three phase has 3 inputs: [ R, S, T ]

Do I have to connect, for instance "R" to the 220V phase, and "S" to the 220V neutral? Keeping "T" unconnected?

Yes just connect it to the R and S input.
If you wonder how I know see picture  :)

The most difficult part is to set all the hundred parameters correct for your spindle motor.
Wrong parameters can really burn your motor, seen that happen on our dutch cnc forum, a $4k ATC spindle went up in smoke just because some wrong parameters.
If you want to experiment There is some way of using three 500W halogen lightbulbs in that case in case of shorts Or too hig amps it will light your bulbs instead of the motor. But I do not know exactly how that protection works,it could be as simple as putting them  in serie with your VFD outputs, but I have to check with the guy that did that on the other forum if you are interested. Or someone with motorknowledge here could help.

Oh yeah check in the manual your typenr if vfd matches the single or three phase 230V version.
There are also three ohase 380V versions, that will not work then.

there was a picture, http://www.jinlantrade.com/Stock%20files/0008.jpg

I assume "if the single phase meets two willfully" is chinglish connect to any two of the phases

Beware that unless specifically specified, the power rating will likely be reduced when running on single phase.

Gotta love those Chinese to English translations.

But these are no different from the 1960s Japanese to English translations.

Hilarious.

yeh, usually close to a factor of two. Not only does all the current come from one input instead of three, the ripple on the input cap is much higher
