For many times, I felt the need of a tiny gate driver for small WLCSP packaged MOSFETs in portable, embedded designs. To date, the smallest half bridge gate driver is LMG1205, which measures 2mm*2mm.
I'm thinking if we can have something smaller than that for, let's say, maximum 25V bus voltage (should be plenty enough for up to laptop 19V applications).
I'm in the mood of rolling one with OnSemi I3T25 process, piggyback it in an MPW run, then pursue medium batch runs.
My questions is, how many of you guys feel the need of such a device? Will I be able to recoup my 3000 Euro MPW cost from selling such a chip?
Another option is to use SiLego parts with off-chip differential capacitive isolation barriers. This will have lower NRE, ~$1000 for their MOQ 3000 pcs order, or ~$1500 for 9k qty.
I'm aware that they do offer blank parts in small qty, but practically it would be infeasible to program each chip in production, so factory programming is a must, hence the 3k MOQ.
Again, will the need be enough if I sell such a design I can recoup my NRE?
