Identifying Block "EC" in schematic
« on: January 31, 2024, 11:47:03 am »
Hi,

I was looking into this datasheet:
https://www.richtek.com/assets/product_file/RT7800B/DS7800B-00.pdf

Can someone help me understand what the EC and/or AP stands for?

It is on page 8. EC (Embedded Controller) or AP (Application Processor). To update the firmware in RT7800B.

For the record, EC is a chip used in laptops for various tasks which may include managing battery charging, power supply rails, cooling control, scanning the keyboard to report keypresses, etc. It's a fairly obscure thing whose name you never see in system software, because its functions are hidden behind abstract BIOS or ACPI interfaces (to the extent that they are exposed at all).

AP means the main processor of phones, tablets, etc.
