Pick and place machine with mechanical tweezers?
« on: September 21, 2016, 02:39:12 pm »
Does anybody know of a pick and place machine that is equipped with mechanical tweezers?

I have to pick 4.5x4.5x0.7mm pieces of glass off of backing tape. The glass has been diced from a wafer and needs to be transferred to a tray. This is the perfect job for a SMT pick and place robot. But I cannot use a vacuum pickup, the silicone tip will mark the glass, This is a non-negotiable requirement, no vacuum pick up.

If you know of existing equipment or old equipment that got replaced by vacuum equipment, please let me know.

Thanks

Samsung has been offering machines (e.g. SM451) with what they call a gripper nozzle. They mainly use it for mounting AV connectors on TV boards.

A mechanical tweezer seems more likely to mark than a vacuum pickup - what about a  teflon nozzle ?
