STM32F7E Discovery Board and Audio Codecs, Getting Started

Hello all,

I am wanting to build a digital guitar effect board that uses the STM32F7E discovery board as the brains of the project. I was running through the manuals and having a tough time on how the audio codecs parameters are set up. Does this happen through the I2C communication, or does it have dedicated GPIOx pins for this. I am new to CMSIS so I am trying to understand the drivers but do not understand them.
