hd44780 With 14-Pins and PCF8574 IO expander did not work

I have multiple displays and most of them working
but this display have only 14 pins
2359685-0
I attach it like this ignoring last pins 15, 16


as it should be led pins
code works fine and i2c address is found with a scanner

What did I miss?
