Can't get CSR 8635 module to pair
« on: October 10, 2016, 09:44:45 am »
I have received an F-3288 board from an ebay seller that scammed me by changing the pictures and description and then sending the wrong bluetooth module.

More info : https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/CSR8635-Bluetooth-4-0-module-stereo-voice-answer-with-phone-hands-free-function/237108_2032841451.html

I suppose the pins are drawn when looking from the top.

Now I am trying to use the module and I can't get it to pair, I used an AMS1117-3.3 converter to power up the module with VOUT connected to VBAT and GND connected to GND below VBAT. I also soldered a ~3cm wire to RF.
My phone didn't find the module just by powering it up.

Then in my anger I started poking around with my multimeter on RST, VBAT, GND, the bottom pins and POWER_EN, 1V8 set to DC amps (at least to see some smoke coming out) and I tried random combinations while still searching on my phone.  With some random combination I managed to get the module detected by the phone and appeared as ThinkLoop headphones (so it's 100% my board).

However I have no idea which combination made my board to get detected (I could actually reproduced it two times and managed to play music, but it seems completely random) , I also soldered a 1K resistor on POWER_EN and started poking on GND, VBAT but nothing happens.

I suppose I might need to connect VBAT_SENSE to VBAT and RST to VBAT. Also the POWER_EN is a switch in the following documentation http://server4.eca.ir/eshop/ECA_Modules/index.php?d=SPK-8635-B%5B3011016004%5D&f=20140514-151241_btm8635.pdf, so I suppose I need to also turn on the board with a switch pulled high.

I don't have a scope or logic analyzer to check the pins so I am here to ask whether anyone used a similar module and how he managed to make it work ?

Electrodragon have quite nice documentation.

http://www.electrodragon.com/w/ED8635-B

Different module, same device, but the application circuits are fine.

Heres a better page with application schematics:

http://www.electrodragon.com/w/EXBT  Again, different module, but the pin functions are the same for both the CSR8653, and CSR8645.

Hey All,
I'm trying to get the same module working I have it wired with the same pins as in your picture but no joy.

Is there something I need to do to get the module to power up?
I followed this diagram http://elecmaroc.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Bluetooth-St%C3%A9r%C3%A9o-Audio-Module-schema-1.jpg

All is connected the same apart from the power_en, since I'm using a 3v battery.
I looked at your two links but I can't make heads or tails of it, are pin numbers/layout wrong in the listing/image above?

Any help on this would be great! Cheers.

power_en should be pulled high (technically to the IO voltage, 1.8V, but its fine pulled up to vbat with a 10k).

as per this schematic:

Thanks for the reply/help!

I managed to get the LEDs to light up for a moment but then they just go off, no noises from speakers and not found by phone/pc.

Maybe i got a dud one :(

Edit: I needed a switch between 10k and power_en and then running the it was turning on then turn itself off again.

Well, I don't think you need a switch, just tie power_en to Vbat with a 10k

The power_en seems to be acting as a on off button :S
So I'll remove the switch from the vbat line.

Hi Volk,

I am newbie here.

I have the absolut same module like Stephen37. And tie the power_en with 10K R to vbat. vbat to Ardunio's 3.3V and gnd to Arduino's gnd. iPhone can't find the module. Please see the images.

Hey.

Could you try using the power_en like a button, apply power for a brief moment then disconnect the power to the power_en line. See if the module stays turned on (lights up/flashes)
