Guess how old is it?
« on: February 05, 2015, 03:45:57 am »
I got one of this thing, a LED, metal packaged, with epoxy lens.

Can anyone guess how old it is? I'll publish the answer a day later.

Also, guess where it came from?

1970s russian led?

Doesn't look like it. Soviet LEDs in a similar packaging had metal can and a glass lens.
I remember a green soviet AL360 LED that was, actually, IR LED in a metal can + anti stokes phosphor that produced green light.
Looks like this one:

If it is a prototyped I wouldn't be surprised with them using an old package like that, It's cheaper and easier to prototype / develop with packages that used to be hand made, It wouldn't surprise me if they had an old machine that would be hand operated by people to build the old LED packages.
