conerting a JST XH connector to board to board
« on: May 13, 2022, 02:39:35 pm »
Fells like a chasing a bit of red hearing, but I trying to figure out if you are able to get a female header for the JST XH connector that would allow for board to board connection. I have a situation where I need a pcb (it should be light enough I hope) to held by 2 of JST xh connectors by a product I am unable change or modify in any way.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Workaround: crimp solid wire in the contacts; it can be bent, if necessary for the installation. A little bit of experimentation can go a long way  ;)
OTOH I'm not aware of the existence of the female sockets(PCB) or male connectors(wire) in the XH(clones) series.
Have fun!

PCB sockets I haven't seen.

Did you try how the XH mates with a standard 2.54mm/0.1" socket strip?
As there is little chance of reversing your piggy back PCB, you could get along this way...

XH is 2.50mm, so beyond a few pins, they won’t mate at all.

JQ are interchangeable and may help: https://www.jst.com/products/automotive-connectors/jq-connector/
This. ^^^

JST has the annoying habit of giving compatible connectors with different functions (e.g. wire-to-board vs board-to-board, or crimp vs IDC) entirely different series names, rather than unifying them under a single name. And then they only inconsistently make reference to compatibility with the “other” series, like how the JQ mentions compatibility with XH on its datasheet, but not the other way around!  :palm:
