« on: May 05, 2015, 03:03:59 pm »

I want to use my clear acrylic i have laying around. I'll just scuff it up with course sandpaper to give it an etched effect so it shines/glows nicely.

. . .depends on if you want it too be warm white or pure white?  It's really an aesthetic judgement.

It is a subjective choice.

Warm white is nice for general interior lighting since it is what we're used to coming from incandescent bulbs and candles...

Cold white is 'clinical'...

IMHO.

cheers,
george.

Pure white is probably best then.

Pure white is probably best then.
If you ever expect to use the light box for any colour evaluation - then definitely use the 'pure' white.
The yellow 'warm' white, will challenge your eyes trying to match colours in disparate pieces of content..
Don't ask a question if you aren't willing to listen to the answer.

"pure white" is hardly pure - wrt to LEDs. Check their spectrum... Besides, I have no idea what you would call "pure white".

Basically there's a colour temperature binning for white LEDs and you can choose from a large range. The spectrum is still not broad band (lots of peaks).

You can also use cold white and mix in amber LEDs as needed to shift the colour temperature to what is 'nice' for you.

cheers,
george.

Or you could use the back light of a monitor or a laptop without the LCD but keeping the diffusers.

I don't think it ended up giving a lot of light, but enough for doing the job.

But I bet is cheaper to purchase used X-Ray light boxes or even new ones from ebay.

Edit: or even cheaper, tracing light boxes from ebay :)
