LTSpice - simulating the switching of an inductor
« on: January 18, 2015, 03:09:55 pm »
Using LTSpice to simulate the switching of an inductor as per attached .asc file (please delete the .txt part).

I understand that the emitter current (Q2), at the moment it is turned on, should be positive starting from 0 mA.

LTSpice insists in showing a negative current which contradicts the sense of the one through L2, which is positive, starting from 0.

BTW, current through D2 is consistent with that of L2.

At lost here...

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, however, there is.

LTSpice shows the current flowing into the selected pin. Therefore it is negative at the emitter, because it flows from there into L2. Look at the collector current and you get a positive current.
