DIY Bench Power Supply controlled by an Arduino

Hello everyone,

This is my first post here, so please bear with me.

I want to make a bench power supply from scratch. What I mean by that is that I wanted to design the pcb myself. My original idea was to use the LTC3780, and a voltage/current display. But I ran into an issue: I wanted to limit the current, which you can do with an LTC3780, but how can I see what the set current is?

So I scrapped that idea and I thought of using a microcontroller, something like an atmega, and an lcd or oled display. I just have no idea where to start. Does anyone have any tips or things I should look out for?

Alright so I took a look and I think this is not quite what i want to re-create. The reason is that I want a bigger range of voltage and current.

Would it be possible to just use a different regulator chip, but keep the PWM control? In that case I could use a LTC3780.

I would suggest you stray from what is your mind and slowly built it up. You could start off with the component mentioned by Dave and order yours as well.

As you built you would get an idea of what could replaced and then you can built your own version.
