Anybody knows how these RC connectors are called?
« on: March 14, 2015, 09:48:23 pm »
I used them in my RC batteries and now need more but couldn't find any. They are rated for high current and are easy to insert and remove.

Yes, the XT60 came up in my search and they are similar but different shape

The new batteries arrived with EC3 connectors but I don't like it, requires too much force to connect and disconnect. Are the XT60 better in that respect?

Also the XT60 have exposed contacts at the back which require shrink tubing.

My old connector (got them about 10 years ago) do not require shrink tubing and have springy contacts that were smooth to connect/disconnect, there were not cheap though.

"Bullet connectors" appear to continue to be quite popular and available in most places that sell R/C hobby stuff.
For example:  http://www.hobbypartz.com/79p-10159.html   and a great many more

All depends on the current you expect to push through the motor. My first R/C a decade ago had Tamiya connectors, one I had recently with a ridiculous brushless motor took 2 packs in series with Deans connectors. Even the Deans got hot.

Those "Deans" connectors look pretty flaky compared to proper machine-screw round terminal connectors.  They appear to depend on the plastic shell to maintain contact between the "male" and "female" flat terminals.  A rather poor connector design on several counts, IMHO.

And they require shrink tubing at the back. I prefer protection by the shell itself like the Zero Loss or EC3.

i just bought 20pair of them $16 frm ebay china. less than $1 per pair

Edit: along with dean and ec3 that seem dont require shrink tube.ec3 price is the same price as xt60 but the dean is 3 times cheaper. I like dean frm the look it has more metal and spring metal at the back to push contact.

Shrink or not shrink no problem with me,if they get hot,i'll parallel them,i ordered more than i need.

The connectors in the first post are nice, look at the hyperboloid contacts in the female. Usually you just see crude pin in socket connectors for RC stuff, but that's what high end tyco/amphenol/glenair connectors use for low resistance, low insertion force contacts. If the TS can stomach the cost, then my all means stick to them.

Yes, I got only two new batteries and now that I know the name I know where to get the connectors.
