IP rated encoder for HMI

We have a potentiometer on our HMI, and the is only one reason why, we could not find an IP rated encoder. But surely this cannot be the case? surely using HMI's in the great outdoors is a thing?

Huh? Short search on mouser returns sizable selections. What IP rating do you need?

For extreme harsh environment I usually go directly to magnetic shaft and hall effect sensor. Custom made but there aren't that many option when you want zero enclosure penetration.
