Component Identifying Code
« on: November 26, 2017, 07:10:48 pm »
Hi!

I would like to know the different schemes that are used by people for component IDs. (Design Item ID in Altium)
Our company uses RES# CAP# TRS# DOD# for prefixes, maybe few letters or numbers for categories and a numeral indication of the value/part number followed by it. I don't know for sure, but it can be a coding scheme that was adopted from an old old Phillips scheme.

e.g. RESE24001003 is a resistor in the E24 set, 402 size, with 10 * 10^3 ohms

I see that Altium example designs use CMP-2008-04561-4 where first is indicative of a year, and rest could be just a incremented value.

What other standards are available? I failed to find an official standard that I might start from, like an IPC standard.
