« on: May 16, 2011, 06:49:32 am »
Hi, I just want to share few pictures of my homemade preheater.
It is essential for BGA rework, and very helpful for any SMD rework on a larger multilayer boards.

XBOX360 board ready for rework:

GPU chip removed:

Solder ball stencil:

Reballed chip:

Resoldered on PCB:

Shafri, I much prefer wood grill  ;D

Yes, that's just a normal heater. I prefer to heat the whole board because bigger boards tend to warp if heated partially.
If for some reason I don't want to heat whole board, I mask part that needs to be cool with a aluminium foil.

I really like your board holder! I was going to make something similar out of an adjustable hot air gun with a custom nozzle

Nice mounts flolic, they are are important as the heater itself. Thanks for sharing. One idea you can consider is adding a sheet of say steel a few mm on top of the heater to diffuse the radiaton even more, which should further prevent the formation of hotspots under the pcb.

:D Good evening, after seeing the tutorial, I was really excited because a station BGA cost a fortune and the basic principles of this machine is quite appealing, my question is is used a heat source on top of the graphics chip to remove or to re-weld? I await news ..
  Best Regards
   Miguel
