Good RF cases work great! and give you cancer!
« on: April 06, 2013, 05:09:32 pm »
OK the cases dont cause cancer but whats in them do!

i have been using camel snus seance highschool and i have allot of these little aluminum containers laying about

they come in 2 packages the thinner more stackable one (top) with a nice seal and thicker rounded op ones

there WONDERFUL for RF shielded small electronics ... the noise in there is nearly none! ... it has a nice all around EMF seal with a lip and is made of nice thick aluminum and is real easy to cut apart with a drill!

i have used Altoids containers before but these work much better!

snus sells for about $3 here a container but if you do chewing tobacoo this is a nice alternative (not to mention much cleaner and no spitting ...) if you want a nice RF case ... you can probably find these online empty for cheap!

i use them for everything from electronics to holding components safly to holding screws exc

and no they dont smell like tobacco ... they smell like mint!

and YES IM AWARE some people think this stuff is gross i dont need your comments!

PS: the snorter one has a "freshness seal" on the inside of a silicon rubber ring arround the inside of the top part ... its nice and air tight!

PPS: the shorter one also is far easier to open up if you dont  have finger nails ...

Full disclosure: not telling anyone to get in to nicotine for these cases nicotine is bad and smoking is bad mmmkay?

EDIT: i relize i have big hands so here are the dimentions

tall: 80mm x 50mm x 20mm - 3.21in x 2in x 0.8in
short: 80mm x 50mm x 16mm - 3.21in x 2in x 0.6in

I'm not sure I'd call it an RF-grade shield, but it does work in a pinch. I use Altoids tins for this. My breath smells better than yours.  ;)

i have used altoids before and this is a much better all arround (as in 100% shielded) shield ... tho it IS thin aluminum its thicker than whats used in EMI cans XP

and yes you and your fancy mints XP

These sorts of boxes are widely available WITHOUT ANYTHING IN THEM.  No markings, no  residue, no smells, various finishes, with and without hinges, etc.  Search for "tin boxes bulk."  Here's one example:

http://www.papermart.com/Product%20Pages/Product.aspx?GroupID=20955&SubGroupID=20952&ParentGroupID=19037#20952

Starts at about $0.50 each for that size, and goes down with large quantities.
