K-12 student $20 scope circuit

I was looking around the locally available free EE curriculum and found this rather nifty little circuit project for a PIC controlled and very very basic scope. Thought it would be worth posting for others to use or have as a starter educational project. There are other circuits and such available on the link above. Share and enjoy!

Amni reading that correct that they are connecting the pic's ground to 5v?

eugenenine, it is correct. PIC Gnd should be connected to +5v to achieve specified input of -4.5 to +4.0 V. In the schematic, input Gnd id is also connected to +5v

Hi,

Don't trust somebody who wires the protection diodes like this:

It might be easier to get your head around it if you "rename" the +5V rail to ground, the ground to -5V and the +9V rail to +4V.

Still looks like a very dodgy design though.

Looks like whoever drafted the schematic was having a bit of an "off" day. The button/switch inputs apparently sense the "+5V" ground.

I'm sensing undergrad group-project write-up !
