CAD files for SMT breakouts?
« on: November 02, 2013, 09:05:21 am »
Hi,

I want to make myself a stock of SMT breakouts for SOP, MSOP and TQFP packages by ordering them from seeed/itead via 10x10 cm option. Before going and spending a couple of hours doing it myself, I decided to ask the commutiny - maybe someone has already done such a thing and would like to share design files?

Essentially this would be 10x10cm board packed full with breakouts. I'm pretty sure I'm not the first one to come up with this idea.

Well, dirty little secret is that they _do_ support v-scoring. I've made an experiment and got my boards v-scored just last week.

Regarding buying them on ebay - in my optinion breakout boards are the most overpriced thing on this "electronics hobbyist" market. Hell, you can get a working device with bunch of passives, some silicon and some trimmer pots for the same price as QFP breakout. Just no. :) I want my breakouts to as be cheap as dirt.

If anyone can point me to very cheap breakouts, I'm all ears! Normally I have to make my own and get them made individually but I've not thought of getting them on a 10cmx10cm panel.

miceuz, are you going to release yours? happy to tip you a beer/lemonade for them!  ^-^

If you do an ebay search like, 'soic dip', 'qfn dip', etc there are usually some good results. It depends what you are specifically looking for I guess.

For example (I haven't actually tried these, btw):
40 x SOP8/SSOP8 -> DIP8 for $4.47 AUD
www.ebay.com.au/itm/40-PCS-SOP8-SO8-SOIC8-SMD-to-DIP8-Adapter-PCB-Board-Convertor-Double-Sides-B01-/200961009756?pt=AU_B_I_Electrical_Test_Equipment&hash=item2eca35a85c

10 x QFN32/QFP32 -> DIP32 for $6.50 AUD
www.ebay.com.au/itm/10pcs-SMD-QFP32-0-65mm-QFN32-0-8mm-to-DIP32-2-54mm-IC-PCB-Adapter-Converter-/271298370419?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f2aa49b73

Ti has an adapter board for 10 bucks in their store, some 25 adapters for various size.
Found it: http://www.ti.com/tool/dip-adapter-evm
