Best LED/light to show up dust on surfaces?
« on: April 15, 2023, 08:29:33 am »
Hi,

Does anybody know the best types/wavenlengths of LEDs (or general lights) for showing up dust for visual inspection? (This is for a home environment).

I did see a company called X-loupe is meant to have specific lights for showing up dust in a cleanroom environment:

https://www.x-loupe.com/caseA09list.html

However, I assume they're ridiculously expensive, and they also seem more designed for forensics/camera usage - whereas I just want a light I can wave around, and show up dust particles easily.

I know newer Dyson vacuum cleaners have a small green LED/laser they shine in front of the head - but I'm wondering if that's the best wavelength or not.

Has anybody done something like this, or looked into it?

Thanks,
Victor

Your best bet are HDD platter inspection lights, they are all green lights at a wavelength where the eye is most sensible, they're usually used in the dark.

Are you thinking of this Dyson commercial?
