Identifying an old 1980s Z80 system board
« on: May 30, 2017, 03:53:59 pm »
i found this board today, it was in amongst some other early 80s z80 related items. It looks to be a Z80 computer system with a disk controller board and i am just intrigued as to what it is as google isn't bringing anything back for me.

The only identifiable markings are VM 5022 BR 00 on the main board and VM 5023 BR 00 on the disk controller, the ICs are dated around 1983

does anyone recognise it?

Philips mullard P2000 computer

how did i find this ?
the SAAxxx chips are teletext chips. googleing SAA5057 showed this is a cyrillic character generator for teletext. the fact this board has serial ports, a header lableled IEEE ( GPIB port ) tells me this is a compute rof some sorts. the only machine i remember that had teletext generator chipsets on board was the philips P2000 series.

Well, that and the Mullard logo on the sticker in the middle of the board with VM5022 was a bit of a giveaway for it being Philips/Mullard :)

Nice board, does it boot?

I don't know, a P2000 has a cassette as a storage medium and 2 cartridge slots with connectors on the main pcb. A P2000C is a portable with 2 built-in diskdrives but the board looks different. Vincent, did you find a picture of the pcb?

 :-+ thanks

there are no other markings on it, even underneath or in the copper layer and i didn't recognise the logo on the label, it also looks like the ROM for the Z80 is missing or i would have read it for clues!

that P2000 doesn't look a perfect match though  :-\

there's different flavors fo the p2000. p2000t p200m p2000c.

the presence of a cyrillic rom .... could have been a special build for those countries...
