About GSM Chip/Ceramic Antenna
« on: August 09, 2017, 08:40:56 pm »
Hello,
Recently, I am developing a project that uses Quectel M66 Gsm Module. But so far, I always use the prepared PCB antenna with Ipex connector.
which is ->

It works fine but I want to use a chip antenna to protect the integrity of the PCB. Here are my questions
1- GSM Module says it's frequencies are  850/ 900/ 1800/ 1900 MHz. As I remember It works on 900mhz. So how should I choose proper gsm antenna in the market?
2- Is there any gsm antenna suggestion for battery powered quectel m66

thank you.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM_frequency_bands
In Europe and Turkey, 900 and 1800 MHz are used by GSM networks. The other bands are used in the Americas only.
If your networks operate in the 900 MHz band, you do not need an antenna for 1800 MHz.

I've been using the Antenova SMD antennas, and they work pretty well for an antenna mounted directly on the PCB.

There's quite a bit of requirements on your PCB design in their datasheet, but it's definitely doable.
