Miniscule springs
« on: September 29, 2013, 07:47:39 pm »
Its annoying when working on something with small delicate mechanical parts and you loose them.

Yesterday I had a tiny spring spring across to another location and now I can't find it. It was probably about 0.5mm wide by about 2mm long.

Does anyone have any ideas for replacing things like this. I'm not really sure where to find tiny parts like this. My device will work OK without it, but it does mean that my mode knob no longer has any clickyness.  :-/O :-BROKE

I have seen a spring this small in a DIP switch, perhaps you have something like that in your misc part bin?

Hope you will find something!

Look for old cellphones, they sometimes use tiny springs as contacts for the speaker.
It may be worth looking on DealExtreme for cellphone parts, like this.

They aren't hard to wind if you have some fine piano wire. As above, the next best thing is to find something that has a similar spring.

Thanks :)

I'll have a look in the junk box as I think I have some spare springy switches somewhere.
