OLED displays should theoretically be more efficient than LCDs, but this is not currently true in practice. Due to their high power requirements, OLED phones such as the Galaxy S3 and S4 have low maximum brightness compared with comparable LCD devices.
Organic light-emitting
transistors
(OLETs) offer a potential solution, and obviously can also incorporate a switching function into the display technology itself.
