10M Air Pistol Turning Target Project
« on: February 24, 2013, 10:20:33 pm »
Hi,

I built this a couple of years ago now, but thought it might be of interest on here as it brings together a few nice arduino features and the xbee radios.

All the electronic bits. :)

Lots of pictures in the above link.

This is the Rika target holder which has been modified to fit on top of the servo.

I drilled the Transmitter box and installed the pushbuttons and screen. Then I had to make up a small PCB with the pull down resistors for the pushbutton inputs. This is to stop the Arduino board from detecting a floating voltage input which would cause all sorts of false input readings.

I messed up the LCD slot cut-out a little. :o Always measure twice and cut once. I think I will look for and aftermarket bezel to hide the small gap.

The rear of the main panel.

Connected.

Finished Transmitter and Receiver Boxes.

Complete System.

Thanks

Mark

:)

The installed rechargeable battery system on both the target and the transmitter.

Target Controller battery

Target Servo Battery

Transmitter System Battery

Charge Socket

Charging Systems

Completed System

I tidied up the Menus on the software so they run in a continuous loop.

I also added a Fast and slow Wave mode that turns each target in sequence.

Wave mode in action.

4Second Rapid Fire turn in action

Complete Project Photo Album

The total cost of the project comes out at about £350

But this includes £60 worth of new batteries and two chargers along with £70 worth of Rika target holders. So if you are willing to do a bit more DIY I think you could make one for about £220 or so.

Thanks

Mark

Nice did you make the plastic parts with a 3d printer? Also can the targets be set to turn randomly instead of sequentially.

Hi,

No they are rika target holders for a travelling 10m pulley retrieval target changer system, adapted with servo arms to fit the top of the servos. Normally a system like this is fitted with a large motor or air cylinder that moves all five targets together. The individual servos gives this system much more flexibility. I'd like a 3d printer but cannot justify the cost for the little use it would get.

Thanks

Yes, there is a random sequence built in as well. I love the open source code base for the arduino. There is always something to adapt or modify to get a bit nearer to your goal.

This is fantastic! Reminds me of the old "Police Trainer" arcade games.
