Gmail: specific sender permanent block needed
« on: February 11, 2023, 03:30:22 am »
Hi.

I have one EXTREMELY pushy, aggressive contact - a relative - who spams me repeatedly and with unkind stuff via gmail. He’s tried it on twitter and WhatsApp too (where I can and have blocked him)

Apart from a gmail filter which I’ve set up already, are there any gmail checking scripts I can run to find his crap, and immediately trash it and empty the trash? This bullshit is causing me anxiety - I stonewall ALL his comms - just don’t wanna see his name in my ANYTHING.

He’s been asked to stop by family members, and clearly is unwilling to do so. He doesn’t know I’ve seen his emails as I’ve got self control and ghost him.

Thanks.

You have already set up the gmail filter that marks his messages as read and moves them to trash, right?

Did you consider legal actions?

People tend to choose technological mechanisms, because they seem to offer one-click solution to their problems. But technology neither can nor should solve all problems.
People imagine AI as T1000. What we got so far is glorified T9.

Yes indeed.

Considered of course, but too much drama - I prefer stealth and silence.

Yes indeed.

So what does that not do that you want?  I.e., is the person  creating new accounts?  Or is the filter not catching everything for some other reason?  You want to go back and find all old messages and delete them too?

Yes indeed.

The messages will vanish from the dustbin forever after 30 days.

Google has made gmail API and libraries public: https://developers.google.com/gmail/api/reference/rest  As a second option, you might consider a Python script to empty the dustbin on a timely basis (cron), but I couldn't help you further, as I never used that API myself.

(As a side note, 20 years back, when 250-megabyte drives were pretty much enough for most of tasks, google started to offer 1 gigabyte of free storage for mail and files -- and GmailFS was born.)
