Ben Heck's Show Oscilloscope Watch
« on: October 13, 2015, 07:13:58 am »
Not sure I would wear a watch scope probing a pinball cabinet.

I mean, I like what he does in general but this looks a bit dangerous and no disclaimers are stated.

And a 200 KHz scope?

The manual should say to at least keep your other hand on the back pocket, and gabotronics for some reason are developing a scope watch as well:

Well, the tiny oscilloscopes were already on the market so it was only a matter of time before people start strapping them to their hands  :D
Is it dangerous? It depends on what you do with it. Measuring some logic or even analog signals from your 5V rails can't be that dangerous.
BTW, according to their specs these tiny scopes have an Input Voltage Range: -14V to +20V so you can't really probe anything dangerous.

it's quite impractical and not likely to be used in anger but would make a great novelty present for the right geek

Mr. Heck is more of a graphic artist / case designer, and he does very well with that. I don't watch the show often but it's seems well produced and educational.

Watched the video and the case design is fantastic!
I don't wish to derail the thread, but the way he says 'solder' in my opinion is slightly painful. America!  ;)

There's something about the whole Ben Heck show that makes me cringe every time I see/hear about it... Never figured out exactly what it is though.

I have to give the guy a pass. He is making a living, apparently likes his work. I'd also say that the YTube thing takes a massive amount of work, dealing with sponsors and so on.

I would love to have some of the toys he has, even if just loaners.

It does take a massive amount of work.
Ben's shows are very well produced and it's a ton of work to design and build something and get a show out each week. Few people would be able to do what he does, and he's really good at it.
Unfortunately he does cop a bit of slack for the "over the top" cheesy style and the Element 14 advertorials.
But Element 14 pay for the whole shebang.
I cop slack in the same way for my style.
At the end of the day all Youtubers have their own style, and you either watch or you don't.

I'm at a stage in my life where I want to try a few new things. You never really retire from electronics and technically that is true for me. What is also true is I want to try / learn everything, Youtube as well and I may give it a bit of a go.

I remember watching you (Dave) do the Rigol scope review (way back when). The video was crap but the information was great.
