Wireless GPIB adapter based on the ESP32
« on: July 07, 2018, 04:24:17 pm »
I have put together a quick project for using the ESP32 as an wireless GPIB adapter.

I tested the ESP32 with a modified variant of Jason Pepas Arduino GPIB Library:
https://github.com/pepaslabs/atmega-gpib

And it seems to work just fine. For my first tests I used just level shifters to connect the 3.3V logic of the ESP32 with the GPIB hardware, but for the final project I put in the proper SN75ALS160 drivers.

The Altium design files as well as Gerber / schematic PDF can be found here:
https://github.com/sixtemesseven/WGPIB

I put in some obvious mistakes lets,
see if you can find them :-DD

Suggestions are welcome as well!
Also please tell me if you would like the addition of a DC-Plug or some headers and a converter for e.g. a lipo pack. The PCB will get bigger thought...

I'm quite interested in this, but at the moment am snowed under by just physically organizing things.  At present I have 8 GPIB instruments I want to connect to and I expect that number to grow.

Oh neat, I was considering doing something similar, although not ESP based.

Looks like you can take power from a USB connector, that's certainly easiest for me these days, and if I have at least one modern-ish piece of kit on the bus I'm unlikely to need a supply. I'd happily buy a few.

Take power from usb with an isolated dc-dc converter and a dc jack  ... in case of insufficient usb power
