Feature request. Forum Latex support.
« on: November 06, 2012, 08:51:14 pm »
Hi Dave.

Maybe pie in the sky request but is there any chance of Latex support for the forum? There are several plugins available e.g. http://code.google.com/p/phpbb-latex/

It just makes adding any maths to posts so natural.

Is it really that hard to notice that this isn't phpBB?

It's right down the bottom there, it's kinda hard to miss.

There's this: http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1111

Don't ask me if it'll go onto 2.0.2 without work.

It's not compatible. Latest update 2009.
What is Latex anyway?

Dave.

It's a markup language, often used for mathematic notation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LaTeX

That mod probably can be made to work fairly easily if it doesn't apply as-is.

There is a online Latex equation editor here that I use when I want to make nice looking equations for forum posts or articles.  An example is posted here.

The results of using Latex are impressive but I wonder if enough people know how to use it, or would use it to make implementation worthwhile.  I like the equations the online system generates, but it takes me a lot of effort and a lot of trial & error to use it to get those results.
