"Behind the scenes" video of a teardown
« on: October 23, 2012, 08:13:19 pm »
It would be interesting to see what goes on behind the scenes when Dave does a teardown. It all looks very easy and seamless, but I am sure lots of prep and homework is done before it all comes together?

Yes, I always wonder this. That's actually not a bad idea. It's all up to the Master Dave...

Prep? Yeah, making sure the battery is full and the SD card is empty.
Homework? Yeah, 10 seconds on google making sure I have the basic specs half right for the intro.

Press record, and then occasionally google part numbers as they come up.

Dave.

That's very impressive Dave!  Just seeing how much effort it takes any time I do a written teardown to make it worth the time for people to read, I am sure video ones take an even more non-trivial amount of time, or you are just that much better  ;D

I'm not saying it's quick though, I like to dick around  ;D
Take the current CCD video teardown. That 27min video had 49min of actual footage in 68 clips that took just under 3 hours to shoot.
What I did with that extra 2 hours I have no idea. Obviously I fiddle with the tripod a lot and love screwing that macro lens in and out :o
I do shoot everything "in sequence" as you see it in the final video. So if the tripod gets moved or the macro lens gets changed from shot to shot, I'm actually doing that every time.
Occasionally I'll replay a shot to make sure I got something, but it's common for me to think I've pressed record and captured a clip only to find when I get home and edit that its not there. That's bound to happen in a video with say a hundred clips.

Dave.
