EEVblog Post formatting
« on: October 14, 2020, 12:32:03 pm »
Hello Everyone,
When I post to an EEVblog forum the formatting of the post is a bit jumbled up.Spaces are missing between sentences, new line breaks are missing, but sometimes they are there. The posting looks like as of someone who does not care the least about spaces and new lines, e.t.c.
This is the only forum  site where I have such difficulties while posting.Just curious what is up?You could probably see it in the formatting of this posting...
Great site though, really enjoy it.
Thanks, Peter

1) I'm not the only one I got this problem!
2) Unluckily (at least for me) you have to terminate your sentence with a space to get a line break!
3) Otherwise if I press <Enter> without the space,4) like I did, the two lines get merged!
5)
6) at the end of lines 1,2,4,5 there is a <space>

I haven't experience this. Let's see as I've started another sentence. Next, I'll start a new paragraph.

This should be working as expected. Will it end up with missing spaces? I'm about to post this to find out. Here goes!

Seems to work normally. I've never encountered this odd behavior. I'm currently posting via Firefox 81.0.2 on Win 10.

I have similar problems here, on QRZ.com, & Whirlpool.com, often having to edit the postings after they appear.

In my case, it is mostly associated with using Safari.

Which raises the question:-
If IOT stands for  "Internet of things", does IOS stand for "Idiotic operating system", or "Internet of sh*t."?

There are 2 modes of editing a message.  WYSIWYG and (html) text mode.  You seem to be editing in the WYSIWYG.

My guess is the bug you describe is happening only when editing in the WYSIWYG mode.  Try pressing the 'Toggle View' icon (so to switch in html text mode) and see if it works correctly (it's the last icon in the editor window, the icon with an arrow between square brackets).

This one is just a test...
Previous line was NOT ended with a <space>

WOW! it seems to work!

P.S.: any way to set this flag permanently ?
Thanks

From 'Profile' -> 'Look and Layout' uncheck the 'Show WYSIWYG editor on post page by default.' (the link will get you there):  https://www.eevblog.com/forum/profile/?area=theme

Thanks for the tip!
I wonder if it is working for me?

PS:
It seems to wok! Great!
It was really annoying!

Now, that raises the question, why on earth would they set that flag by default?
Why is such a flag needed at all?
That flag must not have been always set (and I did not set it!), some time ago I did not have that problem!

Thanks, Peter

Why is such a flag needed at all?

Typically for backward compatibility - but also user preference.

A WYSIWYG editor would not have been in early versions of SMF and people using it then would have become used to working with it that way, so to add a new feature and unnecessarily force everyone to use it would have caused a major backlash.

Besides, there are many of us who want to work at the mechanical level - because we like to.
