Lithium batteries: all common flavours and test etc

Hi,
in this thread of mine, my enormous ignorance about all the different kinds of Li-ion batteries has emerged.
I'm wondering whether the topic could be interesting for hobbyists and for one eevblog episode. Eg, how to choose, how to protect the batteries, which are more "green" and whatnot.
But perhaps it's just me, or there is already something.
