Rig for programming a PIC

I just rescued a PIC16C72A from a garage door opener and want to play around with it.  I have it mounted on a SMD to 28-pin wide DIP adaptor board.  I see several programming options available that claim to be compatible with the 16C, but they are all serial port based.  Is there a USB option (programmer and adaptor/socket board) available that for sure is compatible with the 16C?  And preferably <US$100.  I assume the current MPLAB will work as an IDE.  Microchip's website is less than user friendly.

The 16C72 is OTP (one time programmable), so you can't reprogram that salvaged chip.

Does it have a window on top.   That may be covered with tape.   If so, it is UV erasable and re-programmable once erased.   Still a very old chip.   Use something modern.

It can program pretty much all PICs that don't need high voltage programming, which is pretty much majority of the PICs released in the last years.

But like everybody said, that particular PIC can not be reprogrammed... but if you do decide to buy the programmer from one of the sites above, those distributors also stock PIC microcontrollers, so you could spend a few dollars on a bunch of PIC chips... they start from around 0.2-0.5$ for a 6pin micro, here's a list (not all in this list may be supported by that Snap programmer but majority will) : https://www.digikey.com/short/pzb21d
