You're right, these kits are selling like hot cakes! We're doing our best to keep up stocking with our partners.
Hint- you can get a FREE BLE dev kit by attending one of our global training workshops. Check here to see if there's one offered in a location near you (dates for May to be announced soon): www.cypress.com/workshops

Meanwhile, here's a few partners that may have the dev kits in stock:

Plus after the successful 100 projects in 100 days for the Pioneer I bet the new BLE based 100 projects in 100 days has a hand on the kits selling quick :)

While it is a nice kit, the analog blocks (or whatever you call it, op-amps and comparators in my case) uses way too much power to be useful.

The kit is awesome though, especially the BLE dongle for debugging, and really good value for money.

For Aussies reading this, I ordered the Pioneer kit from Arrow for US$42 and it was free shipping via DHL! It will be here by Tuesday afternoon.
Not easy, not hard, just need to be incentivised.

I have to ask, as nobody else has, is there any explanation as to why Dave was having issues with his kit when he first tried it? He got it to work afterwards, but was it something he hadn't plugged in properly, i.e. power cable a bit loose, or was it something wrong with the kit?

It looks a very useful piece of dev kit, and the price seems to be very reasonable, I haven't looked at UK pricing for it yet, I was a bit concerned about the issues Dave was having.

Since he opened it on camera, he didn't read the docs, and was pressing all the buttons at the same time as trying to connect it to the phone..
Atleast, that's my guess.

The out-of-box firmware on the BLE Pioneer Kit requires a button press to turn on the BLE advertising. It will then timeout after 30s and go to Deep-Sleep mode to conserve battery (its a feature! =p)
Dave, like most of us engineers, chose not read the instructions in the quick start guide that asks you to press that button - small lesson for our marketing teams here =)

I sent an enquiry about buying the CY5682 PRoC™ BLE Touch Mouse Reference Design Kit a few months ago, didn't receive any reply. Not even a "sorry not available". Nothing. Silence

Marketing FUBAR indeed. Rubbish.

We're terribly sorry about that!
The BLE RDKs (Touch Mouse and Remote Control) should be available for order in mid-April.

Maybe  add a "PRESS THIS BUTTON FIRST" caption  to the silkscreen on the next PCB rev...

Good idea! Although, adding that text to the silkscreen may not be the best response, since the the kit is a development platform and you can configure the buttons to do whatever you'd like, once you program it with your own firmware. We currently include a sheet of paper called the "Quick Start Guide" which has step-wise instructions on performing the out-of-box kit demos. Perhaps we'll consider adding a sticker on the dev kit that says "press this first for the demo". Thanks for the suggestion! =)

Ok, perfectly acceptable explanation, you can imagine that the question might be asked quite a bit, perhaps Dave would do a follow up video stating that the dev kit wasn't at fault, I would like to see him evaluate this BLE kit a bit more on camera anyway, seems like a neat little kit!

Good work Cypress!

I do find it quite refreshing for a manufacturer to take part in a forum like this and actually listen (or at least appear to  ;D) to us mere engineers! So +1 for that also!
