Hello,

A new post in the ESP8266 series. It's about how to create a Cheap and dirty basic development board with ESP-07 Module. I don't know how to copy the post here so please use the link below:

http://esp8266-projects.blogspot.com/2015/02/esp8266-breadboard-time-cheap-and-dirty.html

It was inspired by "dannyf" extraordinary "STM32, ghetto style" post. Thank you dannyf! Great one!

I really hope you will enjoy it. Any questions, comments are greatly appreciated.

PS: I would really love to post it also here but plese explain me how, without writing again all that stuff :(

Here is another approach. Should cost only a few bucks from OSHPARK.

Edit: $2.75 total for three boards shipped from OSHPARK.

I made several attempts to use the ESP8266 on a breadboard, and end up with a very cheap and easy solution.

A) First I made a small board by bending  some normal 0.1 in (2.54 mm) headers. (pic 1).
The problem is that it does not leave much space on the breadboard. It would be the same
for dedicated board that you can buy on the internet.

B) I directly soldered the 0.1 in (2.54 mm) male header on the ESP8266. Its OK (pic2) , but it puts too much stress
on  the contacts of the ESP8266.

C) I found some nice long 2mm male headers on  ebay
http://www.ebay.fr/itm/171495154253?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
10 x 40 for 5$ which is enough for  25 ESP8266 boards, with a unit cost of  0.2 $.

The pins fit very well in the ESP8266 board, and are easily bended to fit the Breadboard 2.54 mm
spacing. As they are thinner than regular headers, they fit very smoothly in the breadboard.
This solution leaves a lot of space on the breadboard.

Not a wireless user myself but I got high just by looking at the soldering work. Well done.

Keep up the "ghetto" spirit, :)

Yes, I know, I have also a similar PCB done but this time it's just about pure "ghetto style" :)

Nice find the long 2mm male headers! Nice adapters ;)

Yep, it's on it's way to my mailbox already, probably waiting somewhere in HK the Yearly Dragons dance to finnish :).

The only problem with this version, ESP-12, to wide, especially when you want to put it on a soldeless breadboard. At least no metal can to remove to fix the nightshift work.lol.

Here is how I converted my module. On stripboard cut out a hole for the shield, add some electrical tape around the edges, solder short links to standard 0.1" pin headers, add a local bypass cap (way oversized I'm sure). I liked that this way the pin names are still visible.

It's about fun and joy, as I said from the beggining, "ghetto style", CBDB NOT CADR, this time.

Because it was suggested that creating a new thread for each CBDB Project can be a pollution factor, I will continue posting them here. If you think that is better to split again, please post. Maybe pollution is not so great as advertised. What do you think?

When CBDB meets LUA. And some chinese girls. Somehow. LOL.

PART 3: As far as I know this is the first working implementation for MCP9808 I2C Driver, working ok on the new floating point NodeMCU version.

Nice - I just soldered wire wrapped through the holes - it's not pretty but does the job (I should have trimmed the wires a bit more though).

Nice idea. Probably you have right, technically speaking, some shorter wiring might be maybe better but here it's about Cheap and Dirty, "ghetto style".

As you said, it's doing the job and having the fun

And your coloured "spaghetti style" even looks artistic, ESP8266 Art Gallery :)
