I am tempted to buy one, it seems good for robotics, e.g. computer vision

It's been out for a while, I have one running Arch as a backup system.  It has good throughput on the gigabit ethernet and USB 3.  Not as fast as a real machine, but not too far behind either.  A typical desktop can hit 80-90 MB/s running rsync over gigabit ethernet and dumping to disk, I'm able to do about 57 MB/s on the XU4 to an external 7200 RPM drive on USB 3.

The processor is very powerful as well, kicks the crap out of everything else out there.

My only grievance is the fan.  It's loud and is constantly starting/stopping, it can be really annoying if it's within ear shot.

I'd like to use it as "cross compiler machine", to be attached to a 68060 board I am developing, in this case it will run gcc-m68k plus a few debugger and a ROM emulator which works over the usb2 port. it should be fine

Currently I am using FOX G20 by ACME System, bought on ebay for 20 euro as second hand, it's fine even powered by a slow 400Mhz core.

I need to attach an external USB2-sATA hard drive, with a bandwidth of 20Mbyte/sec at least (used to record the stream from the LA module)

Using USB3 camera? Or how do you plan to interface the cameras?

5.0 out of 5 starsAwesome little board
ByPeter Baueron October 15, 2015
This is currently the product with best performance from Hardkernel. I bought it because it is fast and has interfaces like USB 3 and Gigabit Ethernet.
pros:
-supports several Linux operating systems like Ubuntu, Debian, Archlinux and also Android
-can also be used for HD video playback with XBMC or KODI from media like USB sticks, network shares or Online video from Youtube
-boots fast into Linux Desktop (below 30 seconds)
-Hardkernel offers a large number of addons for this board, most USB devices will just work when plugged in
cons:
-the used fan is too loud for the living room, but the fan can be replaced with other quieter models
-out of the box it is not ready for daily use and needs additional configuration but Hardkernel offers a good user forum online
-RAM is limited to 2 GB
If you want to know more about this device you can visit my blog "bitkistl".

Won't regret getting this board maybe is new in Amazon that they don't have all the accessories yet but they will in the future, this is the website I got it and is located in California it is Ameridroid.com
I Hope it helps....
Buy if you are in the Android PC be aware you need a micro SD card to install the OS or a eMMC mobule is not included.

5.0 out of 5 starsThe Best SBC in 2015
ByJack Zhangon December 4, 2015
Definitely the best SBC for year 2015. I changed the cooling fan with Noctua NF-A4X10-FLX 5V Fan, make it a Linux file server (Debian Jessie) with HGST Travelstar 7K1000. (1TB, 7200 rpm, format as ext4). I achieved constantly: read 85.5MB/s and write: 85.1MB/s over the Ethernet connection. I bought this little board from http://ameridroid.com/

5.0 out of 5 starsAwesome Little Retro-Game Machine!
ByFrequent Amazonianon December 1, 2015
Love this board! Works great with Android installed, runs Netflix and YouTube with no issues, plays videos from usb drive, I have mine loaded with tons of games from Nintendo, SNES, Nintendo 64 and it even handles Sega Dreamcast games. Ubuntu was a little slow. Android runs great and would be my 1st OS choice for this board. 5 stars!!

4.0 out of 5 starsWould like sata and more ram

I'm using this as my current workstation as I write this review. I dig it. Would like sata and more ram, but hey what can you do? The dual USB3 ports make up for the sata, 2x32GB usb3 disks with software raid is pretty dang preformant.

Excellent piece of hardware, fast runs Android and Ubuntu flawlessly and works great as a media hub for my TV great for hackes and programmers alike

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat Android SBC option.

Purchased this for a Android entertainment center, absolutely love it.
Wish ameridroid or hardhernel offered other components on their storefront.
Setup to a running 4.4.4 kitkat was about an hour, no issues with my large TV (only had to change the H-Fill to option 2)
Boots fast, quick response, multiple input options, ODROID/hardkernel have a "OTA" upgrade method (though that did screw up on my and had to re-flash.)

I will be getting more of these for relatives
