Implementing FT2232H for JTAG and serial port
« on: February 10, 2024, 05:13:16 pm »
Hi,

First time caller and this should hopefully be a simple question.

I'm putting an FTDI FT2232H on a PCB to get a JTAG and serial port connection through USB to an STM32L431 microcontroller. I've followed their example schematic and it seems like no trouble. I'm just wondering now what the procedure is, once I get my board, how to get the JTAG and serial port functional. Is it just going to work out of the box and the programming software will figure it out as long as I have an FTDI driver installed?

I'll be using PlatformIO which uses OpenOCD for programming and debugging and from what I can see they seem to support FTDI chips but I'm just not sure how automatic all that is. I've found guides about using the D2XX protocol for configuring MPSEE in the FT-chip but I can't quite get my head around if that's more for using the GPIO, SPI and other stuff.

as long as the software can work with the port on the FT2232 you have connected the jtag to and can work with the default ft2232 default vid/pid. It should work out of the box
