Maybe I overlooked, but I don't recall seeing good index about recommended/good books, targeted to metrology field and applications.
Perhaps it's time we correct this?

Reason that got me thinking is book "Sampling with 3458A by Rado Lapuh; 249 pages, 2018".
I have contacted the author and in process to get it, to enhance my knowledge about our 3458A's.

If you have suggested book on this, let's hear it. We can keep nice tidy catalog in this thread for anyone entering this field.  :-+

Big thanks.

Quite honestly? Such books should also be affordable.

I have this book:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Introduction-Instrumentation-Measurements-Robert-Northrop/dp/1466596775
It is fun to flip through but it is a bit general though it does go into some of the maths. It probably doesn't go into enough depth for your average Volt nut but it may be good for those interested in measurements in general. It seems rather pricey now, I'm sure I didn't pay that much for it when I bought it.

Basic Electrical Measurements by Stout has been around for a long time and can often be found used for very little. Early ones show early equipment, later ones less so. Electrical Measurements by Forest Harris (1952) is more modern and more complete. I think he worked for NBS/NIST. +1 on the recommendations so far. You can get a free pdf version of the 1st edition of the Fluke book but the later one is more complete. If you can find the NBS Special Publication 300, that has many original papers. Oh for the days when the Government Printing Office would sell them for a pittance.

Great topic TiN!

A few good books -

Coaxial Electrical Circuits for Interference-Free Measurements by Shakil Awan UK NPL, Bryan Kibble UK NPL (Kibble Watt Balance), and Jurgen Schurr PTB. ISBN 978-1-84919-069-5. Also good information on the Calculable Capacitor, IVD, Shielded Bridge Impedance measurements and QHE measurements.

Any book by Ralph Morrison, such as DC amplifiers in Instrumentation, ISBN 0-471-61600-1, Grounding and Shielding Techniques, ISBN 0-471-24518-6. From the basic physics to shielded transformers and driven shields.

Preventing Thermal Cycling and Vibration Failures in Electronics Equipment, Dave S. Steinberg, ISBN 978-0-471-35729-2. The Physics behind mechanical failures in electronics.

You can find NBS Special Publication 300 at NIST site https://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/Legacy/SP/nbsspecialpublication300v1.pdf. This is the first volume.

So, since knowledge of noise is fundamental to metrology (as others have noted already) here is a copy of

LOW-NOISE ELECTRONIC SYSTEM DESIGN by C. D. MOTCHENBACHER, J. A. CONNELLY:

While not a book on making measurements I found this history of measuring to be a compelling read:
