Calibration: Philosophy In Practice

Scored one of these. Any other good books to recommend on the subject? I've found plenty of online resources. Just thought there might be some other good books out there.

I was thinking of starting a post here in the metrology section on Essential Documents to Read, with links to the various sources. There is a lot of very useful and interesting stuff published by NIST, BIPM etc that could be very helpful and informative when working on a project.

That fluke book is on my list.

That's a great idea.

It's an amazing book and can be picked up for under $30 on Amazon right now. There are alot of books available and most are pretty expensive and I'm not sure how good they are. Seems like some aren't very good and others seem like they could have fake/paid reviews to boost their ratings.

There's this older thread that lists a number of metrology-related books, including the two already mentioned:

That Low Level Measurements book from Keithly looks very interesting. I can't find the 7th edition online. Suppose I could print up the 244 page pdf. Probably cost me more than just finding a used edition :D.

I can find older versions but not the 7th edition. I suppose an older version would still be a great read and most all of the principles still apply.

I assume you mean you can't find a printed version of the 7th edition online, because the PDF is readily available from the Tektronix website ;). I remember before the Tektronix acquisition, Keithley mailing me a printed copy of the guide just because I had entered my address details to download the PDF. I think this was the 6th edition. I doubt they do this anymore unless you are a regular customer.

The changes between the first few editions were quite substantial due to available instrumentation. Like the original edition (which was something like "electrometer measurements") was published before source measure units when analog dials were still common. But I think the updates to last few editions just cover the newly introduced instruments. Comparing the PDF copies I have of the 5th and 7th edition, it appears that the main differences are the instruments that are used in the examples, the features they highlight and obviously the instrument selection guide. The 7th edition also contained a few more application examples.

Yeah I have the PDF saved. I avoid printing very much at home because I enjoy my sanity so whenever I have a bunch to print I go somewhere and have them do it. It's 244 pages. That would cost a bit lol. Looked to see if I could find a book online. Cant find the 7th edition.

I just like having something in my hands. Online PDF's work but theres just something about holding a book. I seem to absorb the information better with large amounts of reading like that. Guess I'm old school that way.

Used copies of the Fluke book are available for around $50 USD, but (very rare) new copies go for over $500.
