PMF Fiber
« on: November 30, 2023, 07:49:21 am »
Not sure if this is the correct forum for this, but it is calibration related.

Lets say I have a laser source with a PMF adapter fitted. And I use a normal singlemode fiber to measure the output power and wavelength.

Apart from the obvious polarisation issues, is it going to cause a problem interfacing a normal singlemode fiber, to a PMF adapter ? I mean, would the mismatch cause me to read a low power level  ?

Normally single mode fibers have larger cores than pmf, but not always so you'll get a larger power level

yes good point, just had a quick look at some PMF fibers and the core is 6/125 and normal singlemode is 9/125. In that case the launch angle would probably be wrong too
